elder soares round 2
Last week Elder soares and his wife came and visited our mission! a couple weeks ago i got to hear them speak in the MTC in english, but this time they spoke in spanish. it is pretty amazing how they can speak so well in front of tons of people in 3 different languages. this time we got to shake his hand and it was so cool! i went into the meeting not expecting to understand anything but i was surprised because i actually understood most of it! he talked about the importance of planning and setting goals and shared alma 26:22, its a good one.
last monday, about all of our appointments fell through. we had like 3 hours of nothing to do. my comp said "lets go find a new family to teach" so we walked and walked and walked and then, finally we found a new family to teach! it was a small miracle. The castro family is super nice. they are catholic but they thought the first lesson was so amazing. we are meeting with them again this week so we really hope it goes well!
we also found an atheist this week and we taught him a little about the 1 lesson. and we were shocked because he actually came to church on sunday, and he liked it! he is still a little unsure about the whole religion thing but he thinks the book of mormon is very interesting and wants to learn more, yay!
funny story: i was teaching hermana zapata how to say "sheets" in english but with her cute little accent she kept saying a bad word hahaha. and now she wont stop saying it haha. she is so funny.
the baptism pic is from 2 weeks ago! (the one i spoke at lol)
Excerpt from Camri's emails to parents:
hermana zapatas parents were catholics but they were converted about 20 years ago! and she is the youngest of 8! and now her whole fam is really strong in the church. so yeah that story is pretty amazing! she said it was really easy for her family to convert, they gave up smoking and stuff. they were prepared for the gospel.
I am in a branch! it has 48 members, probably around 25 show up each week. im not sure how big the church is in costa rica but i am pretty sure you can look it up! in "mormon news room" or something. we have the temple in our mission and we got to go with our mission president when we first arrived, but the next time we get to go is when we leave haha. yes you are right, the mission is hard and uncomfortable, but that is life haha. thats something that elder soares wife talked about! the things i learn here will be valuable forever!
honestly the area i am in is super safe, but i am still very causous with my things just in case. i havent seen any riots or anything at all haha.
